When you are giving out a eulogy speech for someone who is close to you and you lost him or her in death, it would be very hard to comprehend and you could even break down into tears if you are not prepared enough and that’s why you need to learn the art in writing a eulogy speech and not just any kind of eulogy but an entertaining one. You might be surprised with this, but entertaining eulogy speeches can better help out everyone in easing the pains of their heavy hearts and it’s perfectly alright to put some little anecdotes in your speech and at the same time, without making a fool out of yourself or anybody.

I also once had a my share of giving out an eulogy speech for my father. He died five years ago because of colon cancer. And as a the eldest son, I was assigned to write and give out a eulogy for my father to honor him and to cherish the memories that we had. But the truth is, there is always a first time for anything and at the moment, the thought struck my mind that I need to learn how to give a eulogy speech but I don’t have any idea where to find a good guide or any other learning tool.

Until one day, four days before his funeral services, I came upon a book guide on the Net that can teach anyone how to give the best eulogy speech and it also includes a lot of example of eulogies. So, naturally, I need to learn fast on how to write and deliver one so I decided to go for it and I have never regretted what I got. In just a matter of one day, I have made my own speech and I was thankful that I came across that book guide and I know I’m going to use it again in the future.

This might be a little lame, as I am no good with windows video editing, but I tried to make a youtube video on how to write a good funeral speech.

I was going to include excerpts from eulogy for father, but I’m not quite finished editing that for public.

you can see it here

I think I’m going to set up a section for funeral poems as well, as choosing the right poem for a funeral is not an easy thing at all.

I got an email from a friend who asked if I knew any good books with eulogy templates and pre-written speeches.  I had to answer honestly.  I don’t.

I have read some decent books on how to write a eulogy, some specializing in eulogies for parents, grandparents, children, etc.  But I’ve never found a book with pre-written memorial speeches that you could put the deceased’s name in and think that you would be honoring them in any way.

There’s a book called A Eulogy to Remember (we offer it here on this site) that has a good explanation of the steps you should take when writing a eulogy, and it does contain thematic outlines, and some sample speeches, but never goes as far as giving you a speech to fill in the blanks.

if you don’t know what to say, or if you are too busy with other funeral preparations to take the time to write a speech that can pay tribute to your loved one, then you should respectfully decline to do the eulogy.
